Calm the Monkey Mind & Shine Your True Colours

“I see your true colours, shining through” — Cyndi Lauper
Yes, Bliss Family — it’s 2026, and this year is all about noticing, celebrating, and returning to your true colours… the ones that shine beyond roles, labels, or expectations. Before we gallop into the Fire Horse energy with full force, let’s pause, breathe, and come home to ourselves.
Yoga Wisdom Meets Your Mat
This January, we are guided by the timeless wisdom of Patanjali, the ancient yogi who compiled the Yoga Sutras, the foundation of classical yoga philosophy. I am delving back into “Living the Sutras” and taking you on this journey of wisdom with me… in the first chapter, Samadhi Pada, Patanjali reminds us to see our lives clearly, to notice where our perspective might be blocked, and to open to possibility and clarity.
Samadhi is a state of calm, clarity, and inner illumination — a form of enlightenment. It acts like a GPS for your mind and heart, helping you navigate away from obstacles, self-imposed limitations, and the fog of distraction.
One of the most powerful teachings to explore this month is Yoga Sutra 1:2:
“Yoga is the calming of the fluctuations of the mind.”
(Yogasḥ chitta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ)
Imagine your mind as a playful monkey — jumping from thought to thought, teasing, distracting, keeping you from seeing your true self. We often define ourselves by our roles — parent, partner, professional, yogi — but behind the labels lies your deepest self. That is the part that is steady, radiant, and eternal.
When we calm the monkey mind, we can ask: “Who am I, truly?”
And in that stillness, beyond roles and obligations, we begin to glimpse our essence — our true colours.
Tame, Play, Shine
Taming the monkey mind isn’t about strict control or perfection. It’s playful, patient, and compassionate work. Through yoga, breathwork, meditation, and mindful practice, you can:
Find clarity amidst chaos
Discover peace and steadiness
Connect to your true nature
Unlock your purpose and limitless potential
This is the magic of yoga — mastering the mind just enough to let your inner brilliance shine.
A Fun Invitation for Your Mat
This January, let your practice be a playful homecoming. Dance with your breath. Hug your body. Smile at your monkey mind. Let go of striving and simply be. Return to your mat, your sanctuary, your space to remember who you really are.
Let your practice help you say:
“I see my true colours, shining through.”
