Mūla (मूल)

NO… I am not referring to the slang term ‘mula’ representing money….

“Mula” is a Sanskrit term meaning “root,” “base” or “foundation.” In yoga, mula is the first of the bandhas (energy locks) that help yogis to manage the energy within their bodies when practicing yoga. It’s associated with the muladhara (root) chakra.

“Mula” also refers to the root of all action, and the root of any action is a thought. As we begin to refine our thoughts—restricting and binding the intentions behind our actions—the actions themselves become refined.

As we arrive at autumn, a season of transition, with its vibrant colours, chilly evenings, and bountiful harvests, Autumn is also the season for release and reflection, taking stock and returning to our roots or that which brings us stability and grounding. This month of April is the anniversary / birthday month for Ananda Wellness Yoga, the 7th of April 2024 marks 4 years of pursuing my passion and spreading bliss with you all.

Five years ago, I made the first investment for myself and leaped into both my 200hr and 300hr Yoga Teachers Trainings qualifying as an Advanced Yoga Teacher within the same year. My intention to become a qualified teacher was never to teach yoga, it was the first and biggest investment I have ever made for myself, for my well-being, to unbecome a lot of what my life moulded me into and become a better version of myself, for myself and the ripple of that to those who are within my life.

During my trainings my Yoga Teachers kept nudging me to pursue being a teacher singing these words to me Lynnette, you have brought a soul-level of bliss to our trainings, shared utter joy, love and awareness to each one, touched our lives in ways that feel like a constant ‘HUG’ embraced by so much empathy, healing and pure joy, you have a calling and need to share with others, you need to let everyone feel these ‘HUGS’ and help make them feel whole again…..”

It took some time for me to process this as I was on my own journey and felt this needed my full attention, until an afternoon where my family and friends shared with me similar words and too encouraged me to pursue what they and my teachers also could see was a passion within me unfolding and the leaves I had shed, the grounded action I had taken for myself and the letting go (unbecoming) was revealing a part within me that I could not see yet, but everyone else could feel when in my presence.

A few months later the pursuit of personal bliss bloomed into Ananda Wellness!

The principle on which I ground everything in my business is Ananda (Bliss) and to do this I continuously need to connect to Mula, to the root of my teachings and the source that has gifted me this passion and led me towards my purpose, the foundations that brought my personal life stability and calm and to steady myself into each present moment of the changing of seasons in life. The biggest revelation on this journey with Ananda Wellness and being a yoga teacher thus far has been the breadth of enjoyment and joy, happiness, bliss I experience in each class, event retreat, workshop and after. I am and feel privileged to be part of each of your personal journeys, each time you step onto your mat with me

Thank you for the endless support and honour to share my passion and bliss those ‘HUGS’ my teachers spoke of with YOU!

Coming back to our focus “Mula”

As we begin to move away from the hotter, fiery months of summer, days become shorter, and winds become crisper. The leaves start to turn colour, and the dead ones fall away. Rather than fighting to hold on to them, the trees let them go, with faith that after a period of rest, new growth will appear. So too should you embrace the cycle of letting go, rest, and rejuvenation as the year churns onward. Rather than expecting life to move at the speed of summer all year round, autumn is the time for a deliberate, yet natural unwinding. Autumn is the time when you begin to take stock of your life, reflect on your journey thus far and ground back down into the foundations that bring you stability, security.

Our yoga practice is a powerful way to help us slow down, introspect, manage our energy, ground, and re-charge to bring harmony / bliss into our beings. Look at your daily practice as a way of removing whatever is in the way of your flourishing. In this way, you remove “waste” from your systems, in preparation for an abundance of health and vitality. If we don’t ground down during this time and turn inward and connect to the nourishment of the earth element, we can easily get swept away with the rustling leaves and lose your way.
